Cee’s Photo Challenge: Orange

Colors are amazing! I’m excited to share in Cee’s Photo Challenge: Orange. I love the definition of orange that was given on her post. You can check it out at

You’ll not only find the definition but also some great photos and fun entries to visit. I’m running a little late on entering the challenge, but didn’t want to pass up the opportunity. So here are some photos to share that depicts my take on the color Orange!!

Nature holds so many shades of orange. Makes you smile and feel good on the inside. It changes the atmosphere. Just like people, fragrance and music, color has powerful influence. Looking at my images, you’d think the challenge was the color orange AND circles. Everything I included is round. Oh well, orange and round is good. Not to mention couldn’t resist my favorite subject of including a flower or two.

Thankful to have been able to share. It was fun! Hope it put a smile on your face as it has mine!!

Quote by Reggie Joiner…

“Orange is one of God’s favorite colors. He stuck it right there between red and orange as the second color in the rainbow. He decorates entire forests with shades of orange every autumn. It shows up in sunrises at the start of the day, sunsets at the end of the day, and in the glow of the moon at the right time of night.”

When I looked up to see who this person was, turns out he is the author of (never would have guessed it) a children ministry’s curriculum he titled Think Orange. How fitting for the theme. I looked further to see what was meant by thinking orange and I liked the answer given:

It stated, if you paint only with red, you will get what only red can do. If you paint only with yellow, you will get what only yellow can do. When you paint with red and yellow, you’ll get new possibilities, fresh solutions and vibrant outcomes.

Thanks again Cee for a fun filled challenge. I now have a new favorite quote.

Weekly Photo Challenge: “Silhouette”

This week’s Photo Challenge is SILHOUETTE. “The proper definition of a silhouette is ‘the outline of a body viewed as circumscribing a mass.’ In photography, often we achieve that effect by putting light behind the object whose silhouette we want to capture, effectively darkening out the features of the subject instead of highlighting them.”

I wish I could say I took these shots in silhouette on purpose, but… don’t think I did, but fit the theme of the challenge. Isn’t that great how that turns out to happen.

This first photo was from my backyard. I enjoy taking shots and documenting all the growth, changes and simple beauty. The sun shining through the fronds of the palm leaves, reminds me of the “new hope” we have present with the brightness (whether internal or external) of each new day.

It makes me smile just see this! I hope it does you too 🙂

Inside the house a beautiful array of dancing flowers: tulips. I enjoyed learning the fact that they “dance in the vase.” It is said that tulips continue to grow even after being cut. They are in constant search for the source of light so they move, stretch, bob and grow. Their blossoms open in the day and close at night.

They constantly asking the question, “Shall we Dance?”

One of my many favorite places to steal away for quiet moments are the Lagoons at Ko’Olina on Oahu. What beautiful sunsets can be captured there. Day, evening or night, that’s such a nice place to be.

So there you have it, silhouettes…I just realized mine just happened to all be from nature. Guess, that’s just where my heart is. Hope you enjoy the look see. I had fun finding the photos in my collection.

Meet each new day with a heart wide open for new possibilities!!

Blessings of Great Peace, Kulia…

Weekly Photo Challenge: “Happy”

Well, here it is. Another opportunity to think, create, and post. So here is my Second Photo Challenge: What makes me Happy? That’s a loaded question, but what fun I had coming up what to share with you.

There are many things that make me happy and causes me to smile inwardly as well as outwardly. Here are just a few:

LAVENDER: smelling, growing and visiting lavender farms; TURTLES: spotting turtles at the beach; HULA: learning, watching and participating; WILD BLACKBERRIES: picking wild blackberries and eating the harvest; GARDENING: growing and sharing plants, flowers and vegetables.

These are just a few things that I enjoy that make me happy. I have fond memories in each of the categories listed and displayed below. I also have just as many more categories or things that I could share which in itself makes me happy too!

Just thinking about what makes me happy, makes me happy!!

Life is full of many things some good and some not so good. It is not just one or the other. It is a mixture of both. When I take the time to reflect, I can always find something that makes me smile. Even on a “rainy” day…cuz rain helps vegetation to grow. Even on a cloudy day…cuz outta the clouds sometimes you’ll find the most beautiful rainbow.

If you’re in the right spot and have the right perspective, that rainbow can even be double. In the oddest places…Yes, quite amazing.

During a tough time in your life, you may be introduced to support and encouragement that you never thought you had. Bright spots coming through the cracks and crevices.

Yet, some things are just plain obvious and outright joyful. Everyone has common joys and experiences of happiness. But there are those that are specific to just you. Those are very precious, priceless and nothing could compare.

Whether surface happy or inner happy, it’s all a blessing. I chose to share some of my surface happy. I don’t know if I could put into photo or words my inner happy. It is good to rehearse both. This challenge was fun and one we should all practice often: happy.

Happy, Happy 🙂

Blessings, Kulia…
