Weekly Photo Challenge: Geometry

What a great challenge. I love seeing geometry in nature. Never really thought of it in those terms, but that is what our eyes often times pick out in our surroundings. I found some fun shots in my collection and also took a few recently to include. Oh what fun!! So from my backyard beauties to shadows, reflections and some man made objects that surround me here is my take on the challenge: Geometry

This challenge was about the shapes and rhythms that make up the geometry of our world.

It’s everywhere. All around us. Such variety. Being surrounded by the design and nature of the beauty of the world makes life so interesting and enjoyable. Appreciate the opportunity to look a little closer. You’ll be surprised what you might see.

Hope you enjoyed what Geometry in my world looked like to me :-)

Peace and Blessings, Kulia…

Cee’s Photo Challenge: Orange

Colors are amazing! I’m excited to share in Cee’s Photo Challenge: Orange. I love the definition of orange that was given on her post. You can check it out at

http://ceeslifephotographyblog.wordpress.com/2012/10/30/cees-fun-foto-challenge-orange/

You’ll not only find the definition but also some great photos and fun entries to visit. I’m running a little late on entering the challenge, but didn’t want to pass up the opportunity. So here are some photos to share that depicts my take on the color Orange!!

Nature holds so many shades of orange. Makes you smile and feel good on the inside. It changes the atmosphere. Just like people, fragrance and music, color has powerful influence. Looking at my images, you’d think the challenge was the color orange AND circles. Everything I included is round. Oh well, orange and round is good. Not to mention couldn’t resist my favorite subject of including a flower or two.

Thankful to have been able to share. It was fun! Hope it put a smile on your face as it has mine!!

Quote by Reggie Joiner…

“Orange is one of God’s favorite colors. He stuck it right there between red and orange as the second color in the rainbow. He decorates entire forests with shades of orange every autumn. It shows up in sunrises at the start of the day, sunsets at the end of the day, and in the glow of the moon at the right time of night.”

When I looked up to see who this person was, turns out he is the author of (never would have guessed it) a children ministry’s curriculum he titled Think Orange. How fitting for the theme. I looked further to see what was meant by thinking orange and I liked the answer given:

It stated, if you paint only with red, you will get what only red can do. If you paint only with yellow, you will get what only yellow can do. When you paint with red and yellow, you’ll get new possibilities, fresh solutions and vibrant outcomes.

Thanks again Cee for a fun filled challenge. I now have a new favorite quote.

Joy, Peace and Blessings, Kulia…

Weekly Photo Challenge: Foriegn

I almost didn’t make it due to schedule and routines of life, but here is my take on the Weekly Photo Challenge: Foreign. Images I chose for the challenge are outside of my everyday environment. Some have become less and less foreign to me because I revisit them often…like the food!!

The things that are not apart of everyday life that come to my mind tend to be times when experiencing special cultural celebrations; visiting famous tourist spots; and especially my favorite, enjoying foods that we don’t normally prepare for ourselves. I believe going further than the norm is good. It makes us think and causes us to stretch and grow as individuals. Funny I should say this, I was not a person who liked a lot of change. But as wisdom often comes with time, I have learned that change, diversity, a step beyond the usual is a wonderful thing. Without variety and even sometimes without the unexpected, life would be very dull. These photos I’ve shared with you are from a wonderful visit to mainland Japan and Okinawa.

Through those things that are foreign to me…I expand who I am.

Great Fun! Good Challenge!

Blessings, Grace and Peace to all. Hope you enjoyed your visit :-)

Cee’s Fun Photo Challenge: “Water”

I couldn’t resist the challenge when I viewed the theme, Water. What fun this will be to view other entries and to share. My mind went soaring when coming up with what to include. I had to chuckle thinking to myself, “I sure wish I could drink the right amount of water each day that is required as easy as it was to come up with beautiful fun photos of this wondrous substance called water.”

Well, here you have my entry for “Cee’s Fun Photo Challenge…Water”

I really enjoyed this theme. It took me back to some great moments. One of my joys is to water my “yard-garden” and then take some shots of some precious homegrown plants. The water droplets are so fun to try and capture. One day in the near future I will get a macro lens and have a hay day everyday with all my photo captures…they’re out there waiting for me. Til then, I just enjoy what I can get…and I really do enjoy it! They are not professional shots, but they are Mine…Oh wait, that was another challenge…anyway, water droplets, I love!

Water is also a home to many living things. I had the pleasure of viewing Salmon at Tumwater Falls Park in Washington. Would have loved to had some of those on a plate or two or three… It was a fun sight to see. The falls and stream water there at the park was a beautiful sight also. The trail had very nice views and offered a lot of variety. Not a very long trail, but just enough to catch some nice shots.

Water, a source of beauty and and an invitation to tourist pleasure. In Chicago, Illinois, Buckingham Fountain is great to see day or night. But you have to admit, the night time water, music and light show is the one to catch. Great fun, Great shots, and an abundant amount of water that spouts through this fountain. The center of the fountain shoots up vertically 150 feet in the air!

Water, what a great theme. I can’t wait to visit and see what is being shared.

Something that can be so calming, gentle and needful yet it can be forceful, harmful and uncontrollable. Water has many faces, yet whatever is present…you have to respect it. Gotta have it, can’t live without it.

Wonder what your fondest memory of water would be. Mine would be as a child riding through giant water puddles after a heavy rain. Too bad I didn’t have photos of that to post…that would definitely have been included in my entry.

I’m thankful again for the opportunity to join the challenge. If you would also like to, visit Cee at:

Weekly Photo Challenge: “Silhouette”

This week’s Photo Challenge is SILHOUETTE. “The proper definition of a silhouette is ‘the outline of a body viewed as circumscribing a mass.’ In photography, often we achieve that effect by putting light behind the object whose silhouette we want to capture, effectively darkening out the features of the subject instead of highlighting them.”

I wish I could say I took these shots in silhouette on purpose, but… don’t think I did, but fit the theme of the challenge. Isn’t that great how that turns out to happen.

This first photo was from my backyard. I enjoy taking shots and documenting all the growth, changes and simple beauty. The sun shining through the fronds of the palm leaves, reminds me of the “new hope” we have present with the brightness (whether internal or external) of each new day.

It makes me smile just see this! I hope it does you too :-)

Inside the house a beautiful array of dancing flowers: tulips. I enjoyed learning the fact that they “dance in the vase.” It is said that tulips continue to grow even after being cut. They are in constant search for the source of light so they move, stretch, bob and grow. Their blossoms open in the day and close at night.

They constantly asking the question, “Shall we Dance?”

One of my many favorite places to steal away for quiet moments are the Lagoons at Ko’Olina on Oahu. What beautiful sunsets can be captured there. Day, evening or night, that’s such a nice place to be.

So there you have it, silhouettes…I just realized mine just happened to all be from nature. Guess, that’s just where my heart is. Hope you enjoy the look see. I had fun finding the photos in my collection.

Meet each new day with a heart wide open for new possibilities!!

Blessings of Great Peace, Kulia…

Weekly Travel Theme: Couples

What a fun topic for a photo theme! I’ve enjoyed looking at all the entries and decided to join in too.

Nothing more soothing than watching a “Duck Couple” swim on the lake.

How lovely and peaceful to see a “Human Couple” sharing a moment of togetherness.

Two honeycomb towers coupled in a busy city to meet the needs of many.

And always, my favorite subject to share…two beauties from nature catching my eye.

In meeting this photo theme, I came to realize “couples” are everywhere. We just have to open our eyes and look around. Kinda like blessings. We sometimes miss them. I think because we are busy looking at things in ways we are so accustomed to…quick and on the move. Guess you could say it’s all about perspective. How are you viewing the world that surrounds you? Are you really seeing what’s there?

I love these photo themes and challenges. It shows someone is taking the time to look and enjoy what’s all around them!

Thanks for sharing! I had a good time browsing and I hope you have too.

Thank you Ailsa for your blog, “Where’s My Backpack” and for the “Weekly Travel Theme.”

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: One Single Flower

Okay, here it goes…My first entry to Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge! I’ve had fun looking each week, but this time I couldn’t resist the theme challenge of One Single Flower. This theme is one of my favorites to take photos of and one that always catches my eye to view. The first I’ve included is a sunflower from a walk at Pike’s Market in Seattle, the second from a botanical garden in Washington and the third is a bougainvillea which is one of my backyard beauties. Oddly, the vibrant color of the bougainvillea is not the flower. The flower of this plant is the petite white flower in the middle surrounded by three sometimes six colorful bracts.

Hope you enjoy the view!!

“Flowers don’t worry about how they’re going to bloom. They just open up and turn toward the light and that makes them beautiful.”      -Jim Carrey

We should all be more like the flowers and allow who we truly are to come forth. The world would be blessed by all that we each so uniquely have to offer. So don’t worry about the “how”

…just bloom and let the world enjoy your beauty!!!

Thanks Cee for the challenge!!
